Cadence Of The RainIan hadn't un-tucked his shirt yet. Despite never really having any serious qualms with the tucking-in of shirts, the act of un-tucking, he felt, was symbolic of being done with the formalities of a situation. But the reality was that the formalities were not taken care of fully. At least not for his brother-in-law, who now had to deal with insurance agents and call-center representatives.

FooleryDespite my need to have something occupy my mind other than the incessant slideshow of mental pictures of us together, I was unable to settle myself on a CD. Nothing was speaking to me. Ben Folds' angry notes were too malice-filled, his lonely ones too alone. I felt that if I settled for anger, I would doom myself to a car ride peppered with physical assaults on my poor steering wheel. By the same token, if I settled for loneliness, the same wheel would tire of my weary forehead resting upon it.
